A MAN has died in an early-hours incident at a landfill site in Royal Wootton Bassett.
Police and an ambulance were called to Crapper and Sons Landfill in Brinkworth Road around 2.20am after two men were involved in an incident – the details are unknown.
A man in his 60s from Chippenham died at the scene.
Bassett mayor Nic Hughes said: “My heart goes out to their families at this tragic time.
“From the town’s point of view this is hard news to hear at any time of the year, let alone just after Christmas.
“A family has lost someone dear to them which is very sad.”
Crappers refused to comment when contacted by the Adver this morning.
A Wiltshire Police spokeswoman said: “We were called to reports of an incident involving two employees from Crapper and Sons Landfill Ltd, Brinkworth Road, Wootton Bassett, in the early hours of this morning. Ambulance staff were also on scene.
“One man, in his 60s from the Chippenham area, sadly died at the scene. Next of kin have been informed and we ask you respect the privacy of the families involved.
“Wiltshire Police, alongside the Health and Safety Executive, will continue enquiries into the cause of the incident.”
